Fitness Program Entry #6

And here is the weekend again. 2 days of rest between my workouts??
NO.
I have a goal to do one cardio workout this weekend at our local fitness center. I will not do anything with weights/strength training because my trainer said my muscles need to rest.
But I can certainly hit the Elliptical Trainer and the Treadmill down there, ride a bike and perhaps do some crunches. She has me do 3 different kinds: vertical crunches, 1/2 bikes & straight leg.
I will not weigh myself again til next week, but I am soooo hoping for another 3 lb loss. I am trying to focus a bit more on my nutrition now that I am in the "workout groove". My calorie range is 1,200-1,500. 2 days this week I have gone over that upper limit just a bit. I need to get that under control. Today has been an awesome day calorie wise..one day at a time.
I am super super proud of myself for successfully completing 5 straight days of working out! 3 days of 90 minute weight/strength/cardio workout and 2 days of pure 60 minute cardio workout. And I super surprised to find out how much I am enjoying it!

Fitness Program Entry #5

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

Ok, I have now officially survived errrr COMPLETED my 1st week of the Adult Fitness Program. I am so loving it! I feel empowered, I feel accomplished, I feel that this is MY time.

Weighed myself this morning..lost 3 lbs! My desire is to lose 37 more! Yup, a loss of 40 lbs is my goal. Heather did not weigh me out there, they go by inches. She will measure me again at the end of 8 weeks. Waist, hips, thighs etc.

I also joined out local Fitness Center because my adult daughter did and sometimes her friends cannot go with her. I know it is no fun to go alone. It is a very nice facility and I was a member 2 years ago when it first opened, but it is a bit daunting to go in there and see all of that equipment and have no idea what to do with it. I soon quit going. I think they should routinely have a "new member" time to go over the basics.

SO, if I am doing the fitness program and using a trainer AND going to the public fitness center on my own..HOW can I possible fail??? This is going to be one time in my life where "being stubborn" is going to pay off!

Thanks for sharing my journey!!!!

Fitness Program Entry #3

Tues 4/20/10
My 1st REAL workout today. Tuesday is cardio day, 40 min on the treadmill, and I think I lasted about 5/10 min on the elliptical machine.
Heather was pretty much just focusing on getting my heart rate above 130.
I consider the workout a success because I lived to tell the tale..LOL

Amusing antidote time: While on the elliptical, she wanted to check my heart rate & the darn thing would not register it. so I said, "Oh great!, Ya killed me!"
She assured me that she has not had any casualties "yet".

I do love the treadmill, I have one at home, so that was a comfortable way for me to initiate my fitness journey.
My biggest trouble with the elliptical machine was the motion. I suffer from motion sickness. I was pretty shaky when I got off of it, I sat for a few minutes and drank some water. Hopefully that will improve.

Tomorrow will be a bit of cardio but Wed is weight training day, so that should be my focus. There is a bike out there, not a spinning bike..maybe it is called a recumbent bike (?) I will have to ask Heather for sure. I would like to give that a whirl tomorrow.

Thanks for sharing my journey...

Fitness Program Entry #2

Monday, April 19th, 9:00 a.m. I met Heather for the 1st time, she is going to be my personal cheerleader, I mean trainer..lol This first visit is an evaluation and then she will "work me up" a plan. First of all, she took measurements and figured my body fat to be 30.5. Did not weigh me though. While taking my measurements, we visited a bit about my goals and what I want/expect to get out of the program. She will retake my measurements at the end of 8 weeks. Next I did a step evaluation. Step up on the platform and then back down for 3 min, then she checked my heart rate. It was not too difficult and I believe she said my heart rate was 106. Then I did push ups. Heather showed me the proper way to do regular pushups and also modified ones. I managed 7 regular pushups, which I thought was pretty awesome because if you had asked me how many I could do, I would have said "maybe 2". Crunches were next, I think I did 15 and then she told me to stop, again she first showed me the proper way to do them. Here come the hand weights..12 pounders! Yikes! (My ones at home are only 5 lbs.) After doing some curls with those and a couple of other exercises that I can't remember the name of, she went and got the 15 lb weights! You have GOT to be kidding me!?! I did manage to do 3 reps with them. Heather then told me that when I start working with hand weights, she will start me off at 8 lbs. "WHEW!" She said I didn't do too bad. I am fairly flexible (thank you Yoga DVD). Now I have a beginning point. Mon-Wed-Fri=weight training Tues & Thurs=cardio So 5 days a week to get me going and then when I am "in the groove" I might drop down to 3 days a week out there and do more on my own at home the other days. SO TOMORROW THE REAL WORK BEGINS Thanks for sharing my journey...

Fitness Program Entry #1

Our local hospital offers a fitness program with a personal trainer. I have been aware of this program for a few years and know people who have done it and had great success. I bit the bullet and called a couple of days ago to get a bit more info. I am excited to say that I signed up for it! I picked up paperwork and have that filled out and in my purse. The cost is $50/month for the 1st 4 months & $30/month after that.

I have an appointment at 9 a.m. on Monday morning for my 1st "evaluation". I have been warned that it will involve sit ups and push ups etc besides visiting about my general health and diet. Then my trainer will work up "a plan" just for me! I am nervous, but looking forward to it too.

I am going to use my "Meanderings" Blog as my journal for this new journey...
GOALS: Revamp my diet, improve my flexability, strengthen my lower back, be able to do a proper push up (I really do not know how), be able to run a mile and lose 40 lbs.
