Fitness Program Entry #7
The last month has been purely frustrating for me. My body does not like this whole working out thing. I have been a pretty regular patient at the chiropractors office. I have taken the last 2 weeks easy. No strenuous workouts. My left hip is giving me a lot of pain. It got to the point that I could hardly use it to walk. It sucks to get old!
The adult fitness program that I joined started a new fun thing: A biggest loser type of challenge with a pound for pound bonus thrown in. I joined. Cost-$10 with half of that going toward the prize fund and the other half will be used to purchase healthy food to donate to our local food pantry. I was so pumped about it! BUT..we are 2 weeks into it (remember those 2 weeks I have not been able to do my workouts?) Ya, well I weighed in today and I gained 1.2 lbs *sigh*. This means I have to take a healthy food item in as a penalty when I go tomorrow.
BUT...the GOOD news is, I did a full cardio workout today and I feel pretty darn good! 22 minutes on the Elliptical Trainer & 30 minutes on the treadmill. The big challenge will be getting out of bed in the morning..I hope the pain is not too bad. Hopefully I am back on track to workout 6 days a week and will see a (minus) next time I weigh in!
I also brought home a brochure today about a Boot Camp they are doing. It looks awesome, 6 weeks/2 days a week/work your butt off for 45 minutes. With each week getting more intense. I am not signing up...why? I will be a work for one of the sessions each week & also I have been having so much hip trouble that I think I will concentrate on just getting a fitness routine down pat for now. Heather is hoping to do another Boot Camp later on..Fall would be nice..I am thinking if I show the brochure to my boss, we might be able to work something out for those 6 weeks. But for now, not worrying about it, I do not think I am ready yet, but will be a good goal to work towards.
So here I am, I really feel like I am starting from scratch, but that is ok. As long as I have not thrown in the towel...
Thanks for following my journey...

Review of NuWave Oven
YES! It arrived today. I had spent the morning cleaning the kitchen to make room for my new "toy". I had been researching this appliance for about a month so I knew it was good sized. I saw some reviews/comments about the new owner being "so surprised" at the size. I practically lunched myself at the UPS guy when he arrived!
THE NUWAVE OVEN PRO combines the power of convection, infrared, and conduction cooking.
I also ordered the pizza kit and the extender ring kit. When I use these items I will do a review of them also. Right now I just want to do the basic.
What to cook??? I decided on a roasted chicken with veggies. I kid you not..in 1 hour and 15 min I had an awesome dinner on the table and my kitchen stayed cool! That is a big plus this time of year..I hate to run the oven. And to roast a chicken would have been minimum of 2 hours and 30 min. and a grumpy cook.
I took a 4 lb chicken, rubbed it with a bit of olive oil & seasoned it. Cooked it breast side down for 30 minutes. I cut up potatoes and carrots, tossed them with a bit of olive oil, seasoned with salt, pepper & rosemary. I flipped the chicken over, surrounded it with veggies and cooked it for another 40 min.
The chicken was moist, the skin was brown and crispy. The roasted veggies were very tasty! While I put dinner on the table, I slipped a clean rack in the NuWave oven and put some sliced bread on it. It toasted just a bit and was very good.
I cannot wait to try other things. It came with a very handy, laminated cooking chart that I can keep handy with out having to get the book out all of the time. The recipe book looks very good too. EVERYTHING is dishwasher safe except for the top cooking piece that has the cord. I think that might be the part Hubby likes best..lol This will be a very healthy way of cooking too.
The extender ring will allow me to cook a turkey in it! Awesome! And I want to try fish and steaks. I can even cook eggs in it!
So far, I am extremely pleased.

Fitness Program Entry #6
NO.
I have a goal to do one cardio workout this weekend at our local fitness center. I will not do anything with weights/strength training because my trainer said my muscles need to rest.
But I can certainly hit the Elliptical Trainer and the Treadmill down there, ride a bike and perhaps do some crunches. She has me do 3 different kinds: vertical crunches, 1/2 bikes & straight leg.
I will not weigh myself again til next week, but I am soooo hoping for another 3 lb loss. I am trying to focus a bit more on my nutrition now that I am in the "workout groove". My calorie range is 1,200-1,500. 2 days this week I have gone over that upper limit just a bit. I need to get that under control. Today has been an awesome day calorie wise..one day at a time.
I am super super proud of myself for successfully completing 5 straight days of working out! 3 days of 90 minute weight/strength/cardio workout and 2 days of pure 60 minute cardio workout. And I super surprised to find out how much I am enjoying it!

Fitness Program Entry #5

Ok, I have now officially survived errrr COMPLETED my 1st week of the Adult Fitness Program. I am so loving it! I feel empowered, I feel accomplished, I feel that this is MY time.
Weighed myself this morning..lost 3 lbs! My desire is to lose 37 more! Yup, a loss of 40 lbs is my goal. Heather did not weigh me out there, they go by inches. She will measure me again at the end of 8 weeks. Waist, hips, thighs etc.
I also joined out local Fitness Center because my adult daughter did and sometimes her friends cannot go with her. I know it is no fun to go alone. It is a very nice facility and I was a member 2 years ago when it first opened, but it is a bit daunting to go in there and see all of that equipment and have no idea what to do with it. I soon quit going. I think they should routinely have a "new member" time to go over the basics.
SO, if I am doing the fitness program and using a trainer AND going to the public fitness center on my own..HOW can I possible fail??? This is going to be one time in my life where "being stubborn" is going to pay off!
Thanks for sharing my journey!!!!

Fitness Program Entry #3
My 1st REAL workout today. Tuesday is cardio day, 40 min on the treadmill, and I think I lasted about 5/10 min on the elliptical machine.
Heather was pretty much just focusing on getting my heart rate above 130.
I consider the workout a success because I lived to tell the tale..LOL
Amusing antidote time: While on the elliptical, she wanted to check my heart rate & the darn thing would not register it. so I said, "Oh great!, Ya killed me!"
She assured me that she has not had any casualties "yet".
I do love the treadmill, I have one at home, so that was a comfortable way for me to initiate my fitness journey.
My biggest trouble with the elliptical machine was the motion. I suffer from motion sickness. I was pretty shaky when I got off of it, I sat for a few minutes and drank some water. Hopefully that will improve.
Tomorrow will be a bit of cardio but Wed is weight training day, so that should be my focus. There is a bike out there, not a spinning bike..maybe it is called a recumbent bike (?) I will have to ask Heather for sure. I would like to give that a whirl tomorrow.

Fitness Program Entry #1
I have an appointment at 9 a.m. on Monday morning for my 1st "evaluation". I have been warned that it will involve sit ups and push ups etc besides visiting about my general health and diet. Then my trainer will work up "a plan" just for me! I am nervous, but looking forward to it too.
I am going to use my "Meanderings" Blog as my journal for this new journey...
GOALS: Revamp my diet, improve my flexability, strengthen my lower back, be able to do a proper push up (I really do not know how), be able to run a mile and lose 40 lbs.
